Robots for drilling Microcontroller Boards
The requirements on this project, which ran throughout the entire summer semester 2002, were to develop, design and optimize a Mechatronic System for drilling microcontroller boards with various bore-hole structures.The process took place in three teams. Each of the teams created a robot (âMicro Stepperâ, âPolar Drillâ and âMcPlexâ). The tool motion was accomplished by piloting linear or polar coordinates on the plane.

There were four phases of implementation: The first step, after a short brainstorming process, was to have the students develop the mechanical construction, using computerised support of AutoCAD for technical drawings.

After this they programmed their workpieces for processing on CNC milling machines and CNC lathes.The second phase was used for the installation of the electrical and electronic equipment. It included the important process of ordering components, such as multiphase motors and other electronic devises.
